OVERVIEW

The Centre for Hearing & Ear Implants has been providing transdisciplinary care to patients and their families since 2001.  As a follow-up to our inaugural workshop on transdisciplinary practices in cochlear implantation, we are offering a new course which delves deeper into issues that each professional looks out for in an ideal cochlear implant candidate.  With a better understanding of each other’s assessment concerns, pre- and post-implantation, we hope to communicate better within the team, as well as plan a more holistic rehabilitation programme for the patient.

OBJECTIVES

  • Learn about pre-surgical, audiological and rehab considerations for cochlear implantation

  • Learn about the potential complications of cochlear implantation

  • Learn how these issues are identified by different members of the Team

  • Learn what can be resolved through intervention by the doctor, audiologist and auditory-verbal therapist
