OVERVIEW
We are very excited to be organizing the 6th edition of our Laryngology / Stroboscopy course in conjunction with the Singhealth ENT Instructional Fortnight 2025. The diagnosis and management of voice and swallowing disorders is a niche field, and it can be difficult to see the wide variety of cases required to gain confidence in training or routine clinical practice. With this year’s basic Laryngology and Stroboscopy course, we intend to build on the strengths of our previous course in emphasizing case-based discussions where participants can immediately apply what they have learnt about Stroboscopy and Voice evaluation.
Like the last edition of this course which ran in 2023, we seek to put an equal emphasis on both the physicians’ and speech therapists’ learning needs. Our goal is that every participant will leave the course having taken away something and also promote the multidisciplinary approach to diagnosis and management that is so important in Laryngology care.
OBJECTIVES
Understand mechanics and principles of Stroboscopic examination of the vocal folds
Familiarize with evaluation of Stroboscopic findings in the setting of common voice pathology
Introduction to the utility of FEES and Pharyngeal Manometry in dysphagia evaluation and management
Practical hands-on experience with flexible nasopharyngoscopy (for speech therapists) and with injection medialization laryngoplasty (for physicians)
PROGRAMME
In the morning, the focus will be on Stroboscopy mechanics and evaluation. In the practical session, faculty will guide participants through a comprehensive series of cases comprising history, high quality voice recordings and videostroboscopy, challenging participants to clinch the appropriate diagnosis and discuss management options spanning from therapy approaches to surgical intervention.
The afternoon topic is advanced swallowing evaluation and intervention, with a focus on Functional Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) and Pharyngeal Manometry. There will be a live-patient FEES demo, and speech therapists will have the opportunity to have hands-on guided practice for flexible nasopharyngoscopy, an essential skill required for performing FEES. Physician participants will break out for a hands-on session on injection medialization laryngoplasty techniques in our fresh frozen cadavers.
